Day 177: Pack Mule

Trying to get back into my routine. Dear god, my legs are so stiff! I took every precaution. I wore comfy shoes, thick socks, fancy support and comfort shoe inserts, the whole nine yards. I walked...I don't even know how many miles, but thanks to my preparation I have zero blisters. Just stiff and sore muscles. I feel like all my muscles and tendons are pulled taught like rubber bands. Hopefully I'll be less stiff and more mobile soon. I still have so much to do!

This doodle is a more calm (and less frizzy and gross) version of myself on day one. I wore a dress, my camera strap, by press badge, my purse, an umbrella, and a giant bag filled with press materials and goodies. I walked all the way to and from the con carrying all this stuff, so now I have some broken capillaries and bruising on my shoulders from all the weight.

My body is one giant bruise

I just got back from New York and boy, are my arms tired. Seriously, I feel like my body is one giant bruise, but the show was absolutely amazing! I've been updating my tumblr and instagram accounts with some of my antics and adventures, because they are easier to update from my mobile than this blog, but full write ups are on the way!

In the meantime, here are some photo-bullet-points from my trip!

More 365 Art Buttons

I’m working on a little button-pack for Otakon with some of my 365 art. These images aren’t final, they have a bleed to allow the images to wrap seamlessly around the button. I’ll have to print them out and give them a press to see if they need some tweaking before I commit. I’m really digging evil-cat-monster-thing as a button, I hope he turns out nicely.

Some Prints for Otakon

I took a few of my 365 drawings and put them together to make a print for Otakon. At first I was going to cut them out and make them individual prints, but I really really like them together. Maybe I’ll just leave them as-is.

Also, I really seem to like bare shoulders.

Day 176: Business Cards make me legit, right?

Summer Fancy Food Show, Here I Come!

I'm heading to NY this weekend to attend my first ever food industry event! (I’m so nervous!)

Wifi-permitting, I’ll be posting updates while I’m there, but I don’t know how great my connection will be. Keep an eye on my Instagram account for any photo updates.

Since I am still playing around with my business card design, I just printed and cut these temp cards at work to get me through the weekend. They are standard size (3.5"x 2") on 12PT single side coated stock. Not too shabby.

The final cards will have a spot UV, which means stamp-like gloss coating, on the front with all the scattered images, but I'll be sticking with a matte back just in case I want to write any notes or anything while I'm networking.

See you all on Tuesday!

Day 175: The Notebook

Another digital design entry for tonight. I've been so busy getting ready for Otakon and the Fancy Food show that I didn't have a chance to draw tonight, but I got a lot of design done!

This will be a little Sailor Moon themed spiral notebook! I think it's pretty cute, what do you think?

Day 174: Hairflip

I'm feeling a bit better about my trip this weekend. I still have so much to do! I gotta print up Sometimes Foodie business cards for the event, and pick out my outfits, a pack in general, and blarrrrg. Okay, time to calm down and make to-do lists. I'm a list maker, making lists and crossing things off them makes me feel so much better. Is that normal? Or do I have like some kind of list-related anxiety?

Day 173: Not a Clue

Oh my god. I'm freaking out so badly.

So I've been running my food blog, Sometimes Foodie, for almost 4 years now, and this past year it has gotten a lot more attention. I'm collaborating with other food bloggers, I'm doing a food related podcast, and Youtube videos, and now I'm going to a food industry event in New York!

This has kind of been in the works for a while, and I've been stalking the event website for months. I applied for a press pass, and I got in! Look at me being a member of the press.

The only downside is that when I had this whole idea, I was with someone, and I figured they'd be going with me and traveling to New York, and staying with me at the hotel. But now, things are different, and it'll just be me all alone going to NY with public transportation and staying in the room and eating all the food. It feels a bit lonely to do all that, and a bit scary to be honest, but I can do it. Due to my awful sense of direction I'll get lost a bit, but I'll eventually get there.

URGGGG I'm still freaking out. I'll feel better when I'm in the hotel this weekend. It's the journey that's freaking me out, not the event itself. I just gotta figure out how to get to the hotel from here. That's all. It's not that hard, right?

Day 172: Industrial Under-eye Concealer

I wanted to draw something that looked kind of like I do 90% of the time. Lazy bun to make hair stay out of the way, under eye bags and dark circles, and lazy slouchy tank-tops with cheap Forever21 tank tops underneath. Yup, that's me alright.

I gotta figure out this hair situation soon, I want to cut it shorter to force me to wear it down more often, but it took so long for it to grow to this length that I'm hesitant to do it now. If I wear it up all the time, having it so long really doesn't matter, right? At least that's what I'm telling myself. Maybe I should get it done at a salon. I've only ever done it once, and the results were nice, but I'm not the kind of person to bother with my hair.

Day 171: Ramethyst

So it finally happened, I missed a day. Yesterday I passed out and fell asleep through the night til 7AM. I'm pretty disappointed in myself that I missed that day, but I really did need the sleep.

Here's a little WIP of my Raya-Amethyst for my Crystal Jems piece for Otakon.

Day 170: Weird Hair

If I don't sleep, the day never ends, right? It's 5:30 in the morning right now. My sleeping schedule is so fucked. (Pardon my language.)

The hair here is what I've been doodling on my little witch character. The idea behind it is that I have several chunks of hair that feel really nice, nicer than other frizzier parts, so I imagine leaving only the soft sections and cutting out all the frizz.

Day 169: WItchy Woman

I think I might make some mini prints featuring this witchy little woman. I was thinking of adding "Hexes not Exes," at the bottom and making a final version of this as a print and stuff.

Day 168: Witchy Woman WIP

More WIP doodles of the same witchy character I doodled a few days ago. I like her for some reason. In my mind, the star charm at the end of her cap acts almost like a magic wand.

Day 167: Still Traumatized

At this point I think spoilers are okay, but even still I’ll wait to talk about the finale. I’m still not over it. Whyyyyy?

Day 165: Let's forget yesterday's post ever happened, okay? Okay.

I put more effort into tonight's drawing to make up for the abomination I posted yesterday. I'm not the type of person to typically have a celebrity crush, but Kit Harington, and his adorable black-sheep-like hair, has a special place in my heart.

Day 164: Puffy Pom

I really want to make some cartoon Pomeranians to make some kind of notepad or mini sticker sheet with, but it's so hard for me to simplify them! I get too wrapped up in details and then I end up making these weird looking doodles instead. Also, it's so hard not to make them look like weird looking cats.

Otakon is a HUGE anime and Japanese culture convention that has over 30,000 attendees! And I’ll be selling my art there in the Artist Alley!

Day 163: Nickles

Not even 24 hours later, and I am 5 episodes deep into the new season of Orange is the New Black. I gotta stop and pace myself!

Day 162: It's backkkk!

I love that Orange is the new Black is back, but really Netflix? Thursday night release? I work tomorrow! I’m already 2 episodes in and I’ve cried twice, but this is less depressing than Game of Thrones, so I am very happy.

Day 161: It's 4AM

I doodled this lady, and normally I give a lot of my drawings hair, but I really liked her head-shape, and I felt like it might be nice to draw a woman with no hair, or a shaved head. Well that, and it's 4AM. I better get to bed.

Day 160: Design Break

Today is another design instead of doodle day. I’m printing business cards for Sometimes Foodie, so I made a few mock-ups. So far I’m really digging these ones. They still need a bit of tweaking here and there, but I think I’ll do two sets of 500 cards with some spot UV on the front.

I’m going to print out proof versions at work tomorrow to see what I’d like to change before moving forward. I also plan on making some postcards or something featuring more of the Asian food items I’ve reviewed to pass out at Otakon 2015. Gotta get the foodie word out about my blogs!

Day 159: *Internal Screaming*

I call this one, I'm still not over last Sunday's episode of Game of Thrones. Also I wanted to practice more extreme expressions. I tend to draw a lot of blank staring faces, I want to practice more expressions.

Day 158: Comfy and Cozy

I really need to figure out what I am doing with my hair. I wear it up in a lazy bun 90% of the time. I need to hack it off and force myself to do something with it.

Also, WTF Game of Thrones, right? I spent the last hour screaming at the TV. Not even words. Just screaming. Thank god the finale is next week. I don't know how much more I can take. I am really hoping Orange is the New Black will not be horrifically depressing right off the bat. I need some good TV that won't horribly depress me.

Day 157: Pink is my favorite crayon

Just a random doodle to fill sketchbook space, and I am super sleepy, but I got a lot done today. Now, time to treat myself to a nice comfy bed.

Day 156: Who's That YouTuber?

It's xsparkage! (I doubt she'll ever see this, but I'm so sorry if doodling you is creepy.) I've been following Leesha for years. Now that she's got her own little family, it's been a lot of fun watching her shift from being a make-up guru to a mom. My favorite moment from any of her videos is actually the day her daughter was born. The way she and her sister reacted was really similar to how I think my own sister and I would react in that situation, and it was just a really awesome moment of freaking out and being like, "...you had a baby."

Anyway, it's 4AM, I better get my butt to bed. I have another Candyology101 podcast tomorrow.

Thursday, June 4, 2015

Day 155: A Rare Man Doodle

Another fill an awkward empty sketchbook spot doodle. Based on Jaime Lannister, but it doesn't really look like him. At least not the actor that plays him in the TV show. The nose is all wrong. Oh well, I'm still pretty happy for a random pen doodle done at 1:32 AM in the morning.

Day 154: Takin' Up Space

Today was another crazy day. Work all day, stop and buy food for the upcoming Candyology101 Podcast at three different shops, come home, make myself dinner, package etsy orders, sort through some inventory for Otakon (which is coming up so fast!), and clean out my purse. I also started a new work out routine. (Posted under the cut.)

Tonight's doodle is just something to fill in awkward empty spaces in my sketchbook. Nothing more to it than that, but I think my hands are getting better.

Day 153: Stop Sleeping! Work More!

So I went to work, ran errands on the way home, made myself dinner and a lunch for tomorrow, and them completely passed out. It was so cold today! It was 50 degrees F, and it's June! I blame the weather. I was so cold in my room I grabbed a blanket from my bed, and I was out like a light. Urg.

So I did a quick rush-y doodle to fill out my current sketchbook page, reminding me not to sleep, wrote up my food review, and now it's almost 4AM. On a work night. I swear I have my life together, but my sleep schedule is absolutely fucked.

Day 152: Doodle Dump Break

I was having a really hard time focusing today, so I did a few really random doodles instead. I really like the evil looking little cat-thing, but the Pizazz-Jasper was a lot of fun too. I even used some color pencils on it.
